TEXAS AND GEORGIA CAN WIN 10 IN REGULAR SEASON

Seven SEC teams won at least 10 games last year.

You might think Alabama or Texas A&M was the wins leader since both made the College Football Playoffs.

Or maybe it was perennial power Georgia, which won the SEC.

Or maybe Texas or Oklahoma, another CFP team.

Or could it have been Vanderbilt with Diego Pavia Mania stirring the pot in Nashville.

Nope, The SEC team that won the most games last season lost its coach BEFORE the CFP: Ole Miss. The Rebels advanced to the semifinals after beating Tulane and Georgia, and recorded a school-record 13 wins. It was the fourth time in five years the Rebels had double-digit wins.

Georgia won 12, Bama and A&M won 11 and Vanderbilt, Texas and Oklahoma won 10 each.

This season, the Vegas sports line doesn’t have one SEC team winning 10 regular-season games. (Six of the aforementioned seven SEC teams won 10 during the regular season; Texas was the lone exception.)

We’re going to take a look at the top tier SEC win predictions then give our take on whether those teams can exceed that number.

The over/under win total for Texas and Georgia is 9.5.

TEXAS

The Longhorns have one of the best rosters in college football and an elite quarterback in Arch Manning.

It’s time for coach Steve Sarkisian to prove he’s worth his contract.

Texas faces three key games early: Hosting Ohio State, visiting Tennessee, then playing Oklahoma in Dallas.

If Texas wins all three, the Longhorns will be ranked No. 1.

Verdict: Over

GEORGIA

The Bulldogs have recruited great and supplemented the roster with portal acquisitions. It’s a formula that has worked well.

What has hurt Kirby Smart is losing some talented depth.

Still, Georgia has one of the SEC’s better quarterbacks in Gunner Stockton, good skill players – though it could use another top receiver — and a talented defense.

Georgia’s first two big tests are against Oklahoma and Alabama. The Dawgs avoid Tennessee, LSU and Texas.

Verdict: Over

The over/under win total for Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M is 8.5.

Alabama

The Crimson Tide have lost four games two years in a row, unacceptable by the Nick Saban standard.

Moreover, Bama lost a first-round draft pick in quarterback Ty Simpson, creating a question mark at the most important position on the field.

Tide fans haven’t warmed up yet to Kalen DeBoer. A key stretch is October with back-to-back games against Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M, then, after an open date, LSU.

Verdict: Over

LSU

The Lane Train arrives in Baton Rouge with over 40 new portal faces and quarterback Sam Leavitt, who was good enough to help Arizona State nearly upset Texas in a CFP game in 2024 but suffered an injury last season.

Leavitt isn’t the only key. A leaky defense must plug more holes. And the chemistry must gel quickly.

Lane Kiffin was able to do that at Ole Miss, where there was less scrutiny. Can he do it where national titles are the goal?

LSU’s opening month features Clemson, Ole Miss and A&M. We’ll know then the direction of the Lane Train.

Verdict: Over

Texas A&M

Last we saw the Aggies, they scored 3 points in a CFP loss to Miami.

Quarterback Marcel Reed was awful. The offense looked disorganized. And the results showed.

Yet, Reed scored 49 points in a win at LSU the month before and 41 in a win at Notre Dame.

Reed has immense talent, but he’s a bit inconsistent. If he can maintain a higher level, look out.

A&M faces two tough tests in the first month: Arizona State and at LSU.

The over/under win total for Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Florida is 7.5

OLE MISS

Give the Rebels credit for overcoming the turmoil created by Kiffin and beating Tulane and Georgia in the CFP. And winning a school-record 13 games.

Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is the key. Recruited to be a backup last season from a Division II school, he took over for the injured Austin Simmons and was arguably the SEC’s best quarterback.

Ole Miss has one of the league’s best running backs in Kewan Lacy, good receivers and enough athletes on defense to be strong again.

They won’t come close to a 13-win season but they can surely surpass 7.5 wins in the regular season. Hosting LSU in Week 3 is a key game.

Verdict: Over

OKLAHOMA

In a bounce back season, the Sooners made the CFP playoff, with a key win at Tennessee igniting the success.

Quarterback John Mateer didn’t have a special season as expected, after breaking his thump. Look for him to be one of the leagues most improved players.

The skill players are gifted. The defense will again be stubborn.

In September, the Sooners go to Michigan and Georgia. An 0-2 mark could derail the season.

Verdict: Over.

FLORIDA

Florida has been the SEC’s most underachieving team over the past five years, turning in four losing records.

Yet, they were good enough to upset CFP hopeful Ole Miss in 2024 and Texas in 2025.

Overall talent wasn’t great, but it was better than the product Florida put on the field. The team basically quit after trailing Tennessee 31-0 at halftime.

So, can Florida bounce back under first-year coach Jon Sumerall?

The Gators will be improved but could start 0-3 in the SEC (at Auburn, Ole Miss, at Missouri) with games still left against Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma.
